Even before the wedding, there’s the engagement!  These diamond ring measuring spoons and diamond paperweight are cute engagement gifts to give your best friend, sister, work friend, etc. Not only will she have the ring on her finger, but she can have one in the kitchen and at work.

Etsy Find: Mr. & Mrs. Pillows

19 Jul

I love these Mr. & Mrs. pillows I found on Etsy as a wedding or shower gift!  The price is right at just under $62, and it would be a cute addition to any couple’s love seat or bedroom.  The seller is also willing to just create pillow cases for less money. Isn’t the font so whimsical?!

PS: It’s been a while!  Stay tuned tomorrow…. finally posting wedding #1 pics from Saturday, July 9th!

Wedding Day Makeup Essentials

30 Jun

My friend’s wedding (wedding #1) is just a little over a week away. I am gathering my list of things I must not forget for the wedding day, and among them are makeup essentials!  I am getting my makeup done the day of, but if you are doing your own, or even if you’re getting your makeup done too as party of the bridal party, don’t forget these items.

Waterproof mascara– This is obvious, right?! If you’re on a budget, try Maybelline’s Define-A-Lash or if you can splurge, I love DiorShow.

Blotting papers– Don’t stress and if you become dewy, run to the bathroom to blot. I use Boscia.

Lipstick or lipgloss– Always have a little shimmer/shine/color on your lips. If you like the feel of a chapstick, try Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer (personal fave). If you prefer a gloss or “Glossimer”, Chanel makes the best out there. If you are a lipstick maven, Revlon Moon Drops has many colors on the cheap.

Pocket mirror– Stick this in your clutch if you need to sneak some touch-ups. I like this Sephora swivel mirror or this simple black one from Walgreen’s.

Do you have any other makeup essentials for the bridal party to have on the wedding day? What brands/products to you swear by?

Recipe: Summer Strawberry Salad

22 Jun

In the summer heat, I am all about eating no cook meals like fresh fruits and salads. For my friend’s bridal shower this weekend, we are serving a variety of salads: fruit, basic greens, and a strawberry greens salad.  Here is a sample 6 ingredient recipe for you to serve at your next bridal shower, dinner table, or to make and take to work for lunch.

Are you “maid” of money?

20 Jun

I saw this graphic circulating around Twitter last week from Mint.com showing how much it costs to be a bridesmaid. When my friends got engaged last year and they asked me to be in their weddings, I didn’t flinch, saying yes immediately. I thought of everything exciting and fun to come: helping plan the shower/bachelorette, trying on dresses, walking down the aisle, etc. etc. I didn’t think about the expenses, and while I knew it would cost me money, I wasn’t thinking as practically. Looking back now, I wish I had saved a bit more in anticipation of what was to come.  I could never not be in their bridal parties, as they are my best friends and it’s such an honor!

At any rate, Mint.com shows the breakout of what it costs to be a bridesmaid, on average, and gives tips to save.  I, luckily, will not have plane travel costs associated with any of my weddings (well except one, but I am a guest).

What do you think about the costs of being in a bridal party?  Would you hesitate to accept the honor of being a bridesmaid or Maid of Honor because of the financial committment?

The Dessy Group’s Newlymaid.com

11 May

A new site was announced this week that helps bridesmaids reuse & recycle your bridesmaid dress (see Monday’s post about Bridesmaid Trade). The Dessy Group launched of Newlymaid.com a place to send your used/old bridesmaid dress for a little black dress.  Brilliant, right?  Not only do you know that you won’t wear that dress that the bride swears you can “definitely wear again”, but now you can use it towards a piece of clothing that every girl needs: the LBD.

Checking out the website, the process seems fairly easy. You send in your old dress and then get a special Newlymaid price to purchase a discounted little black dress.

So far there are 6 LBD choices on the site, but I am eager to see what new styles are added.

What do you think of this new site? Are you open to selling your bridesmaid dress on a site like BridesmaidTrade.com or swapping it for something more wearable like on Newlymaid.com?

Last minute must buy items: Gilt Groupe’s The Wedding Shop

20 Apr

Gilt Groupe’s The Wedding Shop sale ends tomorrow night 4/21 at midnight.  The shop has some great deals, mostly for the bride and mostly already sold. A few items remain that you, as the bridesmaid, should snatch up– asap!

I swear by Tan Towels– they are easy to use and have a natural, non-orangey glow. This package is such a good deal (a 10 Towel box is regularly $24), and I should know, I actually bought for my 3 weddings this summer!

Another great deal- who doesn’t need a little something extra for the “girls” or a nude thong in their emergency kit?

These cushion-cut CZ earrings are a modern classic stud that you will wear long after your bride’s “I do”.

The Newlywed’s Instruction Manual: $10. Knowing what to expect way ahead of the game: Priceless.  ‘Nuff said.

Don’t belong to Gilt? Well you should, and as of yesterday!  Click here for an invite.
